Understanding Oppression

Sunday, September 30th
1:00 PM - 4:00 PM
Room 373, Hagey Hall

Advances in human rights legislation in the past few decades have lead to unprecedented gains for women, people of colour, and gays, lesbians and bisexuals.

Despite these advances, inequalities within our society clearly still exist. Are these inequalities the vestige of an antiquated, by-gone era or do they speak to deeper, structural problems? Join WPIRG as we explore issues of race, gender, sexuality and class and the impact they have on our community.

Space is limited. Please RSVP to info@wpirg.org by 12:00 PM, Friday, September 28th if you want to attend.

Group Communication & Consensus Building Workshop

Ever wonder what consensus decision-making is all about, or how it could possibly work if group members have any differences of opinion?

Consensus decision making is a skill, one many of us have little formal experience with. Those who master this skill not only make great decisions that get "buy in" from the whole group, they build trust and community.

This workshop with experienced facilitator Jodi Koberinski will introduce and explore consensus as a group decision-making process. We will practise the tools used for effective group communication, decision making and meeting facilitation.

Learn first hand why so many effective organizations choose consensus decision-making structures. We'll explore some of our assumptions about how groups work together, identify ways to overcome the challenges of working in a new decision making paradigm, and discuss ways your organization's commitment to consensus is really changing the world.

Space in this workshop is limited. Please RSVP by 4pm May 10th to info@wpirg.org or at 519-888-4882.
