Position: Leadership & Volunteer Program Developer

7 consecutive weeks. Flexible start and end dates between June 8th and August 28th. 35 hours/week at $11.50/hour.

Organization: WPIRG is a student funded and directed environmental and social justice organization based at the University of Waterloo.

Background: This position has been created to develop the Leadership and Volunteer Program at WPIRG. The major component of this program will be the creation of an orientation program for new and returning students at the University of Waterloo, which will introduce students to campus and community organizations focused on environmental, human rights, and social justice issues, and services that deliver programs to marginalized communities. The successful candidate will also be involved in aiding in the development of WPIRG's leadership skills development training program.

Duties: Under the direction of WPIRG's full time staff, this position will be responsible for:
- planning the events, workshops and activities of the orientation program, including creating outlines, establishing timelines, and contacting and booking presenters and trainers.
- recruiting and coordinating volunteers to help with the orientation program;
- writing and designing promotional materials, and promoting the orientation
program to incoming and returning University of Waterloo students;
- contacting student and community social justice and environmental groups to promote participation and collaboration in the orientation program;
- managing other information and communication needs as required; and other tasks as required.

Eligibility: This position is made possible by funding under the Canada Summer Jobs (CSJ) initiative. Applicants must be students meeting the following criteria:
- be between 15 and 30 years of age (inclusively) at the start of the employment;
- have been registered as a full-time student in the previous academic year, and intend to return to school on a full-time basis in the next academic year;
- be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident or person on whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act; and,
- be legally entitled to work according to relevant provincial legislation and regulations;

Position: Sustainable Transportation Promoter

Organization: WPIRG is a student funded and directed environmental and social justice organization based at the University of Waterloo.

Background: This position has been created to strengthen WPIRG's sustainable transportation initiatives. This will include 1) conducting background research and providing assistance to current initiatives focused on cycling and 2) developing and coordinating the community and campus activities to mark International Carfree Day. A focus on the environmental, health, economic and community quality of life aspects of sustainable transportation will be taken.

Duties: Under the direction of WPIRG's full time staff, this position will be responsible for:
