Where is Everything?
(Note: Starting from the UW entrance/exit at University Ave. W. and Seagram Dr.)
Central Market (Pickup): Right on King, past Grand River Hospital (760 King St. West -- on the left). Central is anytime before 10. Central Fresh Market is a grocery store on King Street (just near the edge of Kitchener and Waterloo) and that's where we get the bulk of our food. Go to the loading dock.
Grain-Harvest (Pickup): Left on King, Right on Columbia, the street changes into Lexington. About a block after it changes, the first plaza on your right (105 Lexington Road).
Kitchener City Hall (Serving): Right on King, all the way into Kitchener (200 King St. W.).
House of Friendship: Near bus station in Kitchener (63 Charles St. E.)
When is Everything?
Saturday:
10:00am
- Pickup from Central
11:30am - Cooking
1:15pm - Pickup from Grainharvest. This changes to 2:00 during the summer.
1:15pm - Drive to serving
1:30pm - Serving at Kitchener City Hall
3:00pm - Drive back to the kitchen
3:30pm (or later) - Wash the dishes any time after 3:30 on Saturday.
How to cook for Food Not Bombs:
Cooking happens from about 11:30 til about 1:00.
- Confirm who has the key for the kitchen and pick it up.
- Use rice cooker to prepare rice. There are instructions on the box.

- Rinse and chop some of the vegetables from Central
(you don't need to use all of them).
- Fry garlic, onion, celery in a pot with vegetable oil.
- Put some water and the vegetables in a pot and cook on high with the
lid on for a while.
- Use kettle to boil extra water to add if necessary.
- Add whatever spices you want and let the soup simmer until about 1:00pm.
- Get the dishes, tables (folding table to serve from, and the "free food" table/sign behind the door), camp stove, serving ladle, and extra vegetables together at the door before 1:00pm
How to serve for Food Not Bombs:
The serving is at Kitchener City hall from about 1:30 to 3:00pm (or earlier if people stop coming or we run out of food).
- Make sure the driver gets the propane tank.
- Get to Kitchener City Hall.
- Set up the tables, camp stove and propane tank.
- Set out any extra vegetables or bread on the near sidewalk for
people to help themselves.
- Start dishing out the food (some rice and some soup).
- Bread should arrive sometime before 2:00pm. Set it out.
- At about 3:00pm, load everything into the driver's car and take
it back to the church.
Don't Forget:
- Use bleach when rinsing the dishes.
- The propane stove must be on when serving (prevent bacteria growth).
- Bring the fire extinguisher to the serving (prevents even worse things).
- Return the propane tank.
- Don't leave garbage in the kitchen.
- Lock up!!!
- Meetings are held occasionally in the WPIRG office (second floor
SLC at U of Waterloo). Everyone is encouraged to attend!
- Donations should be put in the labeled jar and can be used for extra food/cab rides/supplies when needed.
